What can I expect from this 10-day trip to Kenya and Zanzibar
On this 10-day trip to Kenya and Zanzibar, we will combine the adventure of a safari through some of Kenya’s most spectacular landscapes and ecosystems with a few days on the beach on the beautiful island of Zanzibar. We will explore Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru National Park, and the Lemek Conservation Area in the Masai Mara, before ending the trip relaxing by the Indian Ocean.
In addition, our experience will contribute to an education and women’s empowerment project, which we will be able to learn about in detail during our stay in the Masai Mara.
This is a complete 10-day trip to Kenya, with safaris in different natural areas and a few days on the beach in a beautiful town in Zanzibar. During the first part of the trip we will discover some of the country’s most iconic landscapes, from the lakes of the Rift Valley to the great plains of the Masai Mara, always seeking a way of traveling that is closer to local communities and respectful of the environment.
And afterwards, before returning home to our daily routine, we will spend a few days enjoying the beautiful beaches of the island of Zanzibar, resting and relaxing so we can return to our lives feeling renewed.
Safari in Kenya
The first days of the trip will allow us to discover some of the most interesting places in the Rift Valley and end up in the Lemek Conservation Area in the Masai Mara.
We will begin our journey at Lake Naivasha, one of the great freshwater lakes of the Rift Valley. Here we can enjoy an environment completely different from the great savannas of the Masai Mara, surrounded by water, vegetation, and a great variety of birds and wildlife.
From Naivasha we will continue to Lake Nakuru, one of Kenya’s best-known national parks and a particularly interesting place to observe rhinos, giraffes, buffalo, and a great variety of birds. The landscape also changes completely: we will go from the shores of the lake and the forests to the vast plains and savanna areas.
Then we will head to the Lemek Conservation Area in the Masai Mara, where we will experience a safari much closer to the Maasai communities.
During the last three nights of our safari in Kenya we will stay in an eco-lodge that belongs to the Maasai community. It is accommodation with glamping-style tents and all the comforts, which belongs to a well-known Maasai leader and official National Geographic guide.
He and his team of Maasai will take us on safari to show us the Maasai Mara (here they can live in total contact with the wildlife) and reveal the secrets of their land.

In addition to adventures and a safari that respects local communities and animals, it is a safari with a strong positive impact on the territory because all profits from the travelers’ stays go to the schooling of Maasai children in the area, as well as to women’s support programs, or to the construction of a high school and tourism school.
It is an area where Maasai communities still live and where there is less tourism than in the National Reserve or other national parks.
From the first day, we will see the advantages of doing this safari in this area:
- It is a less touristy area, so there are fewer cars around the animals, less lodging, and in short, more tranquility. (there are studies that show that animals are fleeing from areas overcrowded by tourism to go to quieter areas like this one).
- During the safari we will be able to get close to the animals, leaving the tracks of the cars and going into the savannah.
- With our trip, we will help finance the NGO led by William, which was founded to help the community through tourism. More than 80% of the money from your trip stays in the community.
- You will see the NGO’s projects that help the most disadvantaged, such as the women’s village, which they accompany after they have been disowned by their own families.
We will also see the best sunsets of the savannah, surrounded by hundreds of animals in the wild. In this area, unlike in the national parks, there are no schedules, and we can extend until sunset, and even let it get dark surrounded by animals. This type of experience is possible thanks to the work that William and the NGO do in the area, and thanks to this, they have permission to go to certain places where the agencies or traditional accommodations cannot reach.

But the unique experience does not end here.
During this 10-day trip to Kenya and Zanzibar with a safari in the Masai Mara, we will visit a sanctuary where two white rhinos live (threatened by poaching) that are guarded 365 days a year by rangers, and we will do a walking safari to see the sunrise in the Masai Mara itself.
The Masai Mara’s full day safari, which lasts until sunset, is another star activity. On that day, we will have our meal in the most beautiful location we have ever experienced, under a tree in the middle of the Masai Mara, without any other tourists around. Only us.
Thus, this route combines different landscapes and ecosystems of Kenya—the lakes of the Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru National Park, and the great plains of the Masai Mara—with a closer, community-based safari experience away from the usual tourist routes.

Visiting Zanzibar Island
After a long day of safaris, wild nature, and Maasai culture, we’ll conclude our trip in Zanzibar for the last four days of our journey.
After a safari in Kenya, Zanzibar is the perfect island to spend a few days relaxing. It has great beaches, ideal for walking, kite surfing or just reading a book under a tree.
These days, you will visit Zanzibar on your own, you can do a blue Safari, go to see dolphins, eat fish on a secret island and see some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. This activity, which is not included in the price, can be booked either in-person or through us. We can help you to book a Blue Safari in Zanzibar.
You can also rent a motorcycle and move around the island freely, visit the Jozani Park, where there is an endemic monkey or go to the south and enjoy eating a lobster in front of the sea.

Accommodation for our vacations in Kenya and Zanzibar
During our journey through Kenya we will stay in different places, adapting to the landscapes and ecosystems we will be discovering.
At Lake Naivasha, we will stay in a peaceful environment surrounded by nature, perfect for enjoying the lake landscape and resting after the journey. From here we can begin to discover a Kenya very different from the great plains of the Masai Mara.

The following night we will stay inside Lake Nakuru park, from where we can enjoy our safari through this spectacular national park and continue discovering the wildlife and landscapes of the Rift Valley. (optionally and to reduce the price of the safari you can sleep in a hotel outside the park, ask us about this option).

The last three nights of our safari we will spend inside the Lemek Conservation Area, in safari tents with private bathroom and hot water. It is sustainable accommodation, with solar panels and no use of plastics, integrated into the environment and managed by the local community.
The food will be prepared by Rongo, our Maasai cook, who will delight us every day with his recipes. All natural, local products, no processed foods or anything like that. We are in eco-sustainable accommodation and food is very important to us.

After the safari adventure, we will fly to Zanzibar, where we will trade the savanna for the Indian Ocean. We can choose between some of these cabins, located facing the sea and with a spectacular pool, the perfect place to rest, disconnect, and enjoy the last days of the trip.
