6-day Safari in Kenya – Sustainable and Responsible Travel in the Maasai Mara

Highly recommended experience: 6-day safari in Kenya so you can enjoy the Lemek Conservancy area in the Masai Mara at your own pace, along with a full day in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, all within the Masai Mara.

In which part of the Masai Mara will we do the 6-day safari?

During the 6-day safari in Kenya, we will be in the Masai Mara, which is divided into several conservancy areas and national parks. On this 6-day safari, we will spend five days in an area still inhabited by Maasai people and wild animals, the Lemek Conservancy area. Here, human and wildlife coexist in harmony, with little separation between the two.

And out of these 6 days, we will dedicate a full day to a safari in the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

On this 6-day safari through the Masai Mara, we will explore in depth one of the world’s most famous ecosystems, from areas inhabited by Maasai people where they live alongside wildlife, to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the most famous park in Kenya.

We will be able to observe the differences between a reserve and a conservancy. For example, in Lemek, animals live more peacefully, and you’ll even be able to step out of the 4×4 jeep and walk through the savannah, enjoy the scenery without a set schedule, watch sunsets, or dance with the Maasai around the fire in the heart of the African steppe. All of this is just a few minutes from our accommodation, without having to travel long distances to see the most wild animals. The Maasai move freely, as it is their territory and where they live, so they don’t have the strict rules found in the National Reserve.

Additionally, you will likely have the best guide in the Masai Mara, William, the official National Geographic guide in the Masai Mara.

Tourism with a positive impact on the Maasai community

Choosing this 6-day safari in the Masai Mara has an added value: in addition to experiencing incredible safaris led by the local community, while doing so, you’ll also be contributing to a social project in the area. The project is led by a Maasai guide who decided to create an initiative where the benefits of tourism are shared among the Maasai community, building schools for local children, wells for water, and supporting the protection and empowerment of women and the local population.

We will sleep in “glamping” style tents, with a double bed, bathroom, electricity, and hot water. This accommodation is managed by the Maasai community, and all tourism profits go directly to them. You will see this firsthand, as right next to our accommodation is a school where, thanks to tourism, the children receive a quality education in English. We will witness the impact of our responsible tourism with our own eyes.

Another social project involves visiting a Manyatta, a village where only women live. These women, unfortunately, were removed from their families or mistreated, and now receive help from the NGO we collaborate with. They are receiving vocational training and microloans to become more economically independent, in addition to receiving medical assistance when needed.

We will lunch at the most beautiful restaurant in the world: in the middle of the Masai Mara

During our full day safari we will enjoy a meal in the middle of the savannah, and in places where there will be no one else. You may have never seen so much nature just for you, thanks to the great knowledge of our Maasai leader about the area, who will accompany you throughout your stay to places where no other guide or company will take you.

Top activity during the 6 days Kenya Safari, a unique experience only with Trip to Help.

One of the most unique experiences to be had on this 6-day Kenya safari is camping on the Mara River. An activity that only we can do thanks to the fact that it is the maasais who organize it and have the necessary permission in that area. We will go to see how the hippos come out of the water at sunset and go out to eat and then they will have prepared some surprises for us, a delicious dinner and tents with all the comforts to sleep under the stars. But this will not be the only sunset we will see, we will have several days to record in our memory images like this one we show you. In addition, our guides will continue to surprise us, which will make the experience even more magical. We can’t explain everything.

Visit to a Rhino Sanctuary

During the 6-day safari in Kenya, we will not only be amazed by the wildlife in complete freedom. We will also visit two very special white rhinos. They are in danger of extinction due to poaching a few years ago. Hunting is banned in Kenya, but there are still people who seek to hunt. This is why this rhino pair is protected 24 hours a day, 365 days a year so that they can reproduce and grow the family and the species.

If our stay coincides with a Sunday, we will go to a masai mass, where they will open the doors for us and we will be one of them. We will see how they pray, sing and dance, and we will be surprised by the mixture between the most ancestral culture and Christianity. Also, depending on the days you are in Kenya, you can visit a typical local market, where goods and animals are exchanged.

The next day we will wake up and go on a “morning walking safari”, a mini walking safari. Our Maasai guide will take us to another of his favorite sites. It will be a unique experience that only we will be able to live and enjoy. Far from the tourist groups that stay in other areas of the Masai Mara.

In short, 6 days of safari and immersive tourism in Kenya that will allow us to disconnect from minute 1 of our day to day life, get to know the Maasai culture closely as we will be with them every day, and at the same time, contribute to a project that began as a dream: to create schools and training projects for the Maasai community through sustainable, responsible and conscious tourism.
