Fall in love with Kenya on this safari to Lake Nakuru and the Masai Mara. 6 days of safari that together with our Maasai guides we will visit two of the most beautiful places in Africa: Lake Nakuru and the famous Masai Mara.

In addition, traveling with Trip to Help you will have a very different safari from any other typical and tourist safari, since it is the Maasai community, through an NGO, who organize the activities and dedicate the benefits of tourism to the social projects they have in the same community. This allows hundreds of children to receive quality education in English or to build wells to provide access to fresh water.

The 6-day safari in Nakuru and the Maasai Mara starts in Nairobi, where our driver will pick us up and drive us to Lake Nakuru. We will cross the Rift Valley, where we will stop to take some pictures and then continue our journey. We will arrive at Lake Nakuru for our first game drive.

Lake Nakuru Safari Tour

On our first day of safari, we will head to Lake Nakuru National Park. One of the most beautiful lakes in Kenya where we will see hundreds of birds or the endangered Rothschild giraffe. We will also be able to see the various Rhinos that live in the park. If you want to see Rhinos, this is one of the best parks in Kenya to see them.

That lake will remind us of the movie“Out of Africa”.

There we will have an afternoon safari and the next day, after breakfast, we will head to the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Safari in the Masai Mara

During the following days of our 6-day safari in Kenya, the Maasai will show us their territory. We will do several safaris in the Masai Mara and specifically, we will visit two parks: The Mara National Reserve and the Lemek Conservation Area. Both belong to the ecosystem of the Masai Mara. And although it may seem the same, the differences between doing a safari and the conservation area are very big. First of all, the number of cars and tourists, in the conservation area can only enter 15 cars per day. In the Mara National Reserve (where everyone goes) can enter hundreds of cars per day. This will allow us to see the differences between two areas that belong to the same ecosystem, one much quieter and the other (the most famous) much more full of cars.

In addition, the Lemek conservation area is managed by the local communities, where they live in total contact with nature. There we will be able to see lions, cheetahs and other animals in the wild such as giraffes, wildebeests or hyenas.

We will also have time to visit a rhino sanctuary that is guarded 24 hours and 365 days a year, due to the threat of poachers who are about to cause the extinction of this animal if it were not for the rangers and the absolute dedication that is given in these places, so that the species can survive. Afterwards we will surely see the best sunset in the world, in a unique place, in the middle of the savannah and surrounded by wild animals.

We will visit a village of Maasai women who, thanks to the NGO, have a safe place to live with their children. They are women expelled from their respective families for various reasons, and that the NGO has given them a place to live. There we will see where they live, their “bomas”, which they have made with their own hands, and we will be able to see the handicrafts they make to sell, and thus, be able to have a livelihood for themselves and their children. It is a visit where we can then buy Masai handicrafts made by them and where 100% of the sales go directly to the women (not as usual that the money is divided between driver, guide, translator etc.).

Accommodations during the safari in Kenya

As for lodging, during the 6 days of safari, we will have three different accommodations. In the Maasai Mara, we will stay at the NGO’s lodge in the Lemek Conservation area. It is a set of glamping tents with private bathrooms and hot water, which has a team of people from the Maasai tribe, who will undoubtedly get into our hearts. From our lodge we can go on safari with Maasai guides, or see the different projects of the NGO.

The night in the Mara National Reserve we will sleep in a lodge very close to the access to the park, which also belongs to a Maasai organization with several social projects.

In the Nakuru area, we can choose between several accommodations. One more premium and one more economical. The budget hotel is budgeted in the price of the trip.

Day 1

Safari Lake Nakuru

Our guide will pick us up at the hotel in Nairobi or at the airport early in the morning. The safari starts between 6:30 and 9 am (we choose) and we will head towards Lake Nakuru, a several-hour drive, to see the beautiful Lake Nakuru located in the Rift Valley.

Lake Nakuru, in addition to hundreds of flamingos, pelicans, and other birds, is a natural refuge for rhinoceroses, lions, Rothschild giraffes, and buffaloes. Although there are also leopards, they are quite difficult to spot.

  • Dinner
Day 2

Safari in Mara National Reserve

Today we wake up early to head towards Kenya’s most famous reserve, the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations, famous for its abundant wildlife and the Great Migration, where over 1.5 million wildebeests and zebras cross the Mara River facing crocodiles and predators. It is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and buffalo) and offers spectacular sightings of cheetahs, giraffes, and hyenas. Its endless savannah landscape and Maasai culture make this reserve a unique place for an unforgettable safari experience.

However, even if we don’t coincide with the Great Migration, we will still see most of the animals that live in this Reserve, like elephants, lions, cheetahs, and many more.

Day 3

Full day safari in Maasai Mara - Lemek Conservancy

Today we will dedicate all day to know the area, where we will do a day of safari for the Maasai Mara. Specifically, we will be in a conservation area within the Maasai Mara, a much quieter area, without so many tourists, and therefore with more animals than many areas of the National Reserve. Our Maasai guide will take us to see the biggest predators in the world like lions, which we can see up close since being in a conservation area, we will be able to approach and see the animals in more detail and dedicating more time and without haste than in the National Reserve of the Mara, where I do not know can get out of the way. To eat, we will stop at the best restaurant in the world, in the middle of the savannah, under a tree, and surrounded by nature. In addition we will be alone, there is no other tour operator that stops to eat there. It is a unique place, only us, the Masais and nature. After eating in that wonderful place, we will continue with our safari through the Maasai Mara.

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4

Visit the NGO projects and camping in the Mara River

On our third day in the Maasai Mara, we will visit a Maasai manyatta where women and children who have been expelled from their families live. The NGO gives them a safe place to live with their children. We will see where and how they live, we will know them and then they will teach us the handicrafts that they do to earn money. If we want, we’ll buy, otherwise we’ll go to our apartment and have lunch.

In the afternoon, we will go to do one of the star activities of the safari: Camping by the Mara River. An essential and unique activity that we can only do thanks to the Maasai.

We will head to the river to watch the sunset behind us and see the hippos emerge from the water in a row. When night falls, we will head to our camping area, where the rest of the Maasai will be preparing dinner. We will have dinner with them, sitting close to the campfire until it’s time to sleep. That night, we will sleep in the middle of Maasai Mara in tents, and our Maasai warriors will watch over us until dawn.

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5

Camping in the Mara River

We will wake up very early (6 am), have a coffee, and start our safari. Early in the morning is when it’s easiest to spot the big predators. With a little luck, we will see them!

At midday, we will return to the accommodation for lunch.

After lunch, we will visit a sanctuary to see two rhinoceroses, where they are watched 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. After that, we will continue our safari to watch the sunset in the middle of the savannah. We will have a beer while we watch one of the best sunsets we’ve ever seen.

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6

Morning Walking Safari + Transfer to Nairobi

On our fourth day of safari in Masai Mara, we will wake up early to do a walking safari across the savannah. We will pass through small villages until we encounter zebras, hyenas, and other animals. After 3 hours of walking, we will stop to have breakfast in the middle of the savannah. We will then return by car to our accommodation.

A car will take us back to Nairobi to finish our safari and either continue the journey or head home.
