On this safari through Kenya and Tanzania, we invite you to experience a journey carefully designed to combine thrilling wildlife encounters, breathtaking landscapes, and responsible tourism that supports local communities. You’ll have the chance to see first-hand the projects where part of your trip investment makes a real difference. This adventure is perfect for adventurous couples who enjoy independent travel, as well as families seeking a unique road trip off the beaten path.
The safari starts in Nairobi and ends in Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). There is the possibility to make an extension in Zanzibar and do Kenya, Tanzania and finish the safari in Zanzibar.
Our safari starts in Kenya, in Nairobi, where we will pick you up to head to the Amboseli region. If the skies are clear, Mount Kilimanjaro will greet you in the distance as we approach.
We’ll enjoy a full-day safari in Amboseli National Park, famous for its herds of elephants and spectacular views. Two nights here give us time to fully experience the park before continuing toward the Tanzanian border, just a short drive away.
At the land border between Kenya and Tanzania we will live the unique experience of crossing a border on foot, and surrounded by locals. Very few tourists cross this border. We only met one Chilean cycle-traveler who was on his way to Tanzania. The rest, all locals. It is a very quiet and quick border crossing.
After crossing the border, comes the best part. Do you like road trips through beautiful areas? Then get ready. The next 3-4 hours will be of enjoyment. We will get into our 4×4 and go around Mount Kilimanjaro through a road, sometimes unpaved, crossing through different villages, tribes, forests, and crops. It will be time to sit comfortably and enjoy the scenery. It is likely that we will be the only travelers crossing this area all day.
We will arrive at the village of Momella, where we will stay for the first days in Tanzania. We will stay very close to Arusha National Park, in a hotel owned by the NGO we work with. In this rural and beautiful area of Tanzania, we will see several social projects, such as primary and secondary schools, a medical center and an orphanage. Everything belongs to the same organization, the accommodation, the guides, who will accompany us, and the social projects. These days we will get to know a beautiful rural environment and we will see the impact of the trip we are making, since with our trip we are financing the NGO. In short, it will be a few days to meet local people and talk to them, without rushing but without pauses.
With a local guide from the NGO, we’ll set off on a classic 3-day safari circuit:
We will do the classic 3-day circuit: Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara. In these 3 days of safari in Tanzania we will be able to see lions, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, cheetahs and even the Rhinoceros (with a little luck). We can stay in several hotels of superior category, or in camping with tents and private cook (web price). This safari in Kenya and Tanzania shows you wildlife in its natural habitat.
After the safari, leaving Lake Manyara, we will go to Moshi, in one of the lodges of another social project we work with. The next day we will visit the Materuni Falls, one of the waterfalls that we liked the most. They have a drop of about 80-90 meters and are located at an altitude of about 1,700 meters. It is a walking tour of about 3-4 hours in total.
It is a beautiful area, again on the slopes of Kilimanjaro (but on the reverse side to Kenya) and where other tribes live there as the Chaggas who will give us demonstrations and experiences of artisan coffee, as the Chaggas are farmers and we are in a coffee growing area. After coffee and lunch, we will return to Momella for the night.
The next day, we will begin our experience with the Maasai. We will go with one of the guides to a sacred Maasai area. It is an area not exploited by tourism, in fact, until recently no one who was not a Maasai could enter. But thanks to the work of the NGO, they began to open and now there is a lodge and a school, both of the NGO that allows to finance education.
Those days, we will do several activities with them, such as climbing Mount Mukuru, and see from there, Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Or visit a sacred cave and do a ritual with them. As I said, it is a way of living the Maasai culture that is almost impossible to see in other places, since normally the tourist Maasai visits of almost all tour operators consist of visiting a “tourist” Maasai village . which every day receives several groups of tourists, and where you can see the Maasai dance, how they make fire, and then end up shopping in their local markets.
Our experience with the Maasai will last two days and will be quite different from what is known as “seeing the Maasai culture” that is offered in most trips to Tanzania.
We will say goodbye to the Maasai and our guide will take us to the airport to fly to our home or to Zanzibar if we want to make the extension on the island.
Many travelers like to end their safari on the island of Zanzibar. If this is your case, no problem. We just need to know the number of nights you want to spend on the island and we will take care of the rest. Of course, you will have to buy the internal flight to Zanzibar and the return flight will have to be from Zanzibar instead of Kilimanjaro.
If you have any questions, you can send us a whatsapp or an email about the Kenya and Tanzania safari and we will be happy to answer you.
