This Kenya budget safari designed by Trip to Help, aims to design a low cost safari without sacrificing quality. Ideal for backpackers who want to do a private safari that combines freedom, adventure and authenticity without falling into tourist traps or overcrowded.
We will be accompanied by Maasai guides throughout the safari and stay in comfortable hotels, all while directly supporting the local communities.
This cheap safari in Kenya combines the Lake Nakuru area with the ecosystem of the Masai Mara. In order to take advantage of the time during the safari you will avoid long journeys that reduce the costs but that goes against the traveler’s experience.
✅ Affordable but quality: It is not a luxury safari, but it guarantees comfortable accommodations in well-located camps and lodges, with experienced guides.
✅ Flexible in dates: There is no rigid itinerary. You decide when to travel and we organize the tour. Ideal for those looking for a budget and flexible Kenya safari.
✅ Private Maasai guides: You will travel with Maasai guides who know the savannah like no one else.
✅ Responsible tourism: Everything is managed through local communities, ensuring a positive impact on the region.
✅ No overcrowding: You will not travel with large groups or to overcrowded areas.
We will be picked up by a private guide in Nairobi (at the hotel or at the airport), to leave for Lake Nakuru. The idea is to leave very early from Nairobi to take advantage of the day and make our first safari in Kenya. After the safari on Lake Nakuru we will go to our hotel in the city of Nakuru. It is a 3 star hotel, very focused on congresses and events, and has a very good quality. But being a hotel not focused on safaris it has a more economical price.
The next day we will go to the Mara National Reserve where we will sleep in a glamping tented hotel. It is probably the cheapest accommodation we will be in Kenya, managed by a group of Maasai, and very involved in the long-term development of the community, with the funding of a school. Another example of affordable but socially responsible safari in Kenya.
We will spend two nights in order to enjoy a full day in the Mara National Reserve. The lodge is about 20 minutes drive from the access to the Reserve, so we will be able to make the most of our time in the Masai Mara. In the Reserve we will see elephants, lions, cheetahs, and if you travel during the Great Migration season, we will be able to see the famous river crossing.
After spending two nights in that area we will move on to another area of the Masai Mara which is a conservation area. Only 2/3 hours drive away. Perfect for those looking for a budget Kenya safari but away from the crowds.
In this area, we will say goodbye to our guide, to meet our new Maasai guide, a community leader who also works and dedicates the benefits of tourism to the education of hundreds of Maasai children (you will be able to see him during your stay).
We will spend two more nights in that conservation area where only 15 cars per day can enter for safaris. We will be in the most exclusive area of our cheap safari in Kenya. What are the differences between the National Reserve and the Conservation Area? There are many, but mainly it is an area where we can see the animals with much more tranquility and very close (much more than in Nakuru, Amboseli or the rest of the parks). We will also do activities that we have not been able to do before, such as walking through the savannah, watching the best sunset in the world, or eating in the middle of the savannah. Unforgettable experiences that we will bring back home and will remain in our memories forever.
With a bit of luck, we will see the leopard that lives in that area, although what we will see are the elephants, giraffes and lions that are much easier to see.
