15-Day Uganda Safari: Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Cultural Experiences

15-Day Uganda Safari: Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Cultural Experiences

4.850€
  • Adult

This 15 day safari to Uganda is perfect for travellers who want to see gorillas and chimpanzees in the wild, enjoy game drives and boat safaris, and discover the country’s culture in a respectful and responsible way.

Organised by TriptoHelp, a regenerative travel agency, this 15-day trip is delivered locally in collaboration with NGOs, foundations and community projects. These local partners play an active role in guiding and supporting you throughout your journey in Uganda. This approach helps ensure that tourism revenue stays in the local communities, supporting initiatives such as education and community empowerment, rather than being concentrated in the hands of a few.

Who Is This 15-Day Uganda Trip For?

This trip is ideal for couples and friends looking to explore Uganda together. Families are also welcome, but there are a few age restrictions to keep in mind: gorilla trekking requires participants to be at least 15 years old, while chimpanzee tracking has a minimum age of 12.

If you’re travelling with younger children, not everyone in the family may be able to join these activities. If your child is close to the minimum age—for example, 14 for gorilla trekking—get in touch with us to discuss your options.

Main highlights we will visit

  • Ziwa is a small sanctuary dedicated to protecting rhinos. Here, we’ll go on a walking safari to see these impressive animals up close. And, if we’re lucky, we might even spot one from our own room!
  • Murchison Falls: Murchison Falls is famous for its spectacular waterfalls, but the surrounding national park is just as impressive. During our visit, we’ll enjoy a game drive and a boat trip along the Nile, giving us two different ways to experience Uganda’s wildlife and landscapes.
  • Kibale – Fort Portal: We’ll spend three nights in the beautiful crater-lake region around Fort Portal, enjoying a rural tourism experience alongside one of the local NGOs we work with. This part of the journey is all about slowing down and getting to know everyday life in Uganda. We’ll go for walks, meet local people, take part in coffee tours, visit a village and learn about the work carried out by the NGO. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience a different side of the country, away from the usual tourist routes.
  • Queen Elizabeth Safari: Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of Uganda’s best-known wildlife destinations, and we’ll spend two days exploring the area through a range of activities. We’ll head out on a game drive in search of elephants, lions and other wildlife, and, if we’re lucky, we may even spot some of the leopards that live in the park. We’ll also visit Kyambura Gorge to track chimpanzees in their natural habitat. One of the highlights will be a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel, one of the country’s most memorable wildlife experiences. As we travel along the channel, we’ll have the chance to see birds, crocodiles, hippos and elephants from the water.
  • Seeing gorillas in the wild in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest: An unforgettable encounter with mountain gorillas in the wild. Some experiences are simply beyond words, and meeting these incredible animals in their natural habitat is one of them.
  • Lake Muhele: We’ll follow a scenic route through Uganda’s beautiful landscapes before reaching Lake Muhele. The journey itself is part of the experience, with breathtaking views along the way.
  • Lake Bunyonyi: Lake Bunyonyi will be our final stop in the Pearl of Africa. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, we’ll head to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a protected natural area dedicated to conserving Uganda’s rhinos. The sanctuary provides round-the-clock protection to prevent poaching, which once brought these animals to the brink of extinction. Thanks to ongoing conservation efforts, the rhino population is gradually recovering.

After lunch, we’ll enjoy a walking safari through the sanctuary, accompanied by an experienced ranger. This is a fantastic opportunity to see rhinos up close in their natural habitat and learn more about the work being done to protect them.

We’ll spend the night inside the sanctuary at Ziwa Rhino Lodge.

Murchison Falls National Park

We’ll set off early in the morning towards the spectacular Murchison Falls National Park, the largest and one of the most diverse national parks in Uganda. Along the way, we’ll pass through changing landscapes, from rural areas to vast savannahs dotted with acacia trees, giving us a taste of the natural beauty that awaits us.

In the late afternoon, we’ll head out on a game drive. This is one of the best times of day for wildlife watching, as many animals become more active. We may spot elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions and, if we’re lucky, leopards, as well as a wide variety of birdlife.

After the safari, we’ll return to Nature Lodges Murchison Falls, where we’ll enjoy views of the River Nile.

Murchison Falls and Nile Boat Safari

Today, we’ll visit one of Uganda’s most iconic landmarks: the magnificent Murchison Falls. The sheer power and roar of the water are breathtaking, and the viewpoints offer unforgettable views.

In the afternoon, we’ll enjoy a relaxing boat safari along the Nile, heading towards the base of the falls. This trip offers a different perspective on the landscape and is ideal for wildlife watching. We’ll look out for hippos resting in the water, crocodiles basking on the riverbanks and a wide variety of birds along the way.

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

This is one of the most eagerly awaited moments of our 15 day safari to Uganda: trekking through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of mountain gorillas.

The gorillas we’ll visit belong to the mountain gorilla subspecies, which is endangered. They live in family groups led by a silverback, who protects and guides the group. These animals are peaceful, social and highly intelligent, displaying behaviours that can seem surprisingly similar to our own.

We’ll be allowed to spend up to one hour with the gorillas, observing them from a close distance of around 4–7 metres. Watching them interact, play or simply look back at us is a deeply moving experience that’s difficult to put into words.

After the trek, we’ll meet our guide, who will be waiting for us with the vehicle. We’ll then follow a scenic dirt road through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country, heading towards Lake Mulehe, where we’ll spend the night overlooking the lake.

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 12

Lake Bunyonyi

We’ll travel to Lake Bunyonyi, one of Uganda’s most beautiful destinations and widely regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

In the afternoon, we’ll explore the area and visit a particularly meaningful community initiative: Buzaniro Dream Village. The project is working to improve access to clean drinking water for everyone in the village.

Set in a beautiful location, this visit will give us the opportunity to see how our trip helps support local initiatives and contributes to positive change in this part of Uganda.

Local Culture and Community Life at Lake Bunyonyi

Today, we’ll visit the school directly supported by our trip, giving us a chance to see the impact of our contribution.

We’ll also leave some time to relax at our accommodation and take in the beautiful views over the lake.

  • Breakfast, Lunch
Day 15
